Vintage Extè glasses: the cult comeback of the '90s, only on Reframe

When fashion looked to the future: the (sustainable) return of Extè

Once upon a time there were disco nights, strobe lights, low-waisted pants, and... Extè sunglasses. If you were a teenager in the late '90s or early 2000s, you know what we're talking about.

do: the world seemed to have stepped out of an MTV music video, and Extè was the brand that best captured that desire for the future. Latex, metal, asymmetrical cuts, and a whole lot of personality.

Born as the youth line of the IT Holding group (yes, the one that owns Ferré, D&G Jeans, Malo...), Extè was much more than a brand: it was a manifesto. An explosive mix of Italian fashion and European club culture, with a techno-pop aesthetic inspired more by Tokyo and Berlin than Milan.

The name itself is a clear and ambitious declaration of intent: Extè comes from the Latin expression “ex-tempore,” which means, precisely, timeless.

On the catwalk, only icons: Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Gisele Bündchen.

At the creative direction, a visionary like Antonio Berardi.

In short, not exactly a story of a passing brand.

Above: some of the supermodels who helped build Extè's strong and visionary image. In order: Gisele Bündchen, Carmen Kass (FW 2000), Eva Herzigova, and Stella Tennant (FW 1999).

Glasses or armor?

If there's one piece that more than any other represents the spirit of Extè, it's the glasses. Not just accessories, but extensions of one's identity. Oversized masks, colored or mirrored lenses, sculpted, translucent, or metallic details: they seemed to have emerged from a cyberspace rave.

Then, silence. After the bankruptcy of the IT Holding group, production stopped. Extè glasses disappeared from stores, but not from the memory of those who had worn them. And, as often happens, the cult began right there: in the moment of absence. Extè, in fact, has become a true cult brand in the refined vintage market.

Extè is back (but only on Reframe)

Good news for those who want to wear a pair of Extè without having to trawl flea markets or spend hours on Vinted: we've tracked down, selected, and restored a series of original archive models. Yes, the real ones. Not reissues, not replicas. Authentic Extè glasses, rescued from oblivion and ready for a second life.

You can find them exclusively on Reframe: each piece is unique, unobtainable, with all the charm of an era that today returns to inspire TikTok, Y2K editorials and club kid 2.0 wardrobes.

The beauty is that not only are they beautiful, but they're also a conscious choice. Because giving a new lease of life to vintage glasses means reducing waste, producing less, and truly looking to the future—as Extè has taught us from day one.
